Go ahead and laugh at the band’s name; they sure did, enough to change it to legendary status with Bestial Warlust. I clearly remember a Bestial Warlust interview with Pit Magazine in the mid-90s saying they changed their name because “Who wants to stick their fucking cock in carrion?” If you don’t own BOTH Bestial Warlust albums, shame on you, go fix that problem right now! I would hope the cover artwork on each would alone make you want to own them!
So here we have proto-Bestial Warlust material in the form of their younger, deathier selves with much of it having that delicious basement bathroom recording quality we’ve all come to love (well, that and I’m sure the original recordings are probably not in the best shape). At last, we can get our hooves on their 1992 “Descension of a Darker Deity” demo as well as some rehearsal and promo material and their song “Swarming Black Emotions” from “The Wine of Satan” compilation that you should make a game out of try finding for a decent price (you won’t). I used to only dream about hearing this stuff, and here it is neatly compiled with some hilarious drawings, band photos, photo scans of old show flyers, and a short biography courtesy of member KK Warslut. Certain tracks like “At The Graveyard of God” and the titular track plus a few others ended up as Bestial Warlust tunes, or shall I say artillery, as is. For a nostalgic dose of grinding, cyclonic death metal from the cassette demo era that reeks of all the vileness you could possibly crave and a testimony to Australia’s very respectable underground scene and a precursor to a band that unfortunately split-up much too soon (yet still members ended up in other venerable Australian acts such as Destroyer 666, Vomitor, Abominator, and Gospel of the Horns just to name a few), then this delivers above and beyond!
In a cesspool of a modern “funderground” scene, sometimes an incredible compilation of ancient demo and rehearsal material is just what the doctor ordered to get the other foul tastes out of your mouth! One a side yet still somewhat related note, be sure to also check out label Necroharmonic’s release of Goreaphobia’s “Vile Beast of Abomination” from a few years back for yet another spectacular collection from a bygone era. They appear to do some mighty fine work showing the pioneers proper respect! (FA)
